Found bird in Etobicoke July 4th

Found bird. Small banded yellow/streaked bird in the area of Scarlett/Eglinton on July 4. The bird was on the ground, only able to fly short distances, and was safely caught. It is currently indoors with food, water, and a quiet place to rest.

Secure it somewhere warm and quiet with shallow water and seed, check for a leg band, and post a found report here with a clear photo so the owner can find you. Also browse the lost listings for a possible match and call nearby vets and shelters, where owners often check first.

How do I find the owner of a bird I found?

Post a found report with a photo — the single most important thing for a match — then check the lost listings in your area and cross-post to local Facebook groups and Nextdoor. Hold back one identifying detail so you can verify anyone who claims the bird.

How long should I keep a found bird?

There's no strict legal requirement in most Canadian provinces, but the ethical standard is to make a genuine effort — posting, checking listings, and contacting vets and rescues — for at least 30 days before considering permanent adoption.

Is it free to report a found bird?

Yes, completely free. Reporting a found bird and browsing listings are a free community service by Bird Sitting Toronto.
